You are looking for a Checker Taxi cab. The vehicle was made by the Checker Motor Company in Kalamazoo Michigan. The company stopped making the trademark cab back in the early 1980’s and now stamps out parts for GMC as a sub-contractor.
I believe the last working classic cab was taken off the streets of NYC like 10 years ago.
I would ask some of the limousine companies and and also movie production companies. So of the old cabs are privately owned and get rented to movie companies as props. And you might want to look up and see if there are any Checkers Car clubs around the city. Maybe a private owner would be available for hire.
The only reason why I know this is because I love those old cars myself. And there was a Checkers dealership in Union NJ, not far from my old home.
