I vote we just get rid of the religious part.

Actually shouldn’t you then give the pagan bits back to the pagans?
I vote we couldn’t care less and just enjoy the holiday!

dont bother seperating, its just creates more animosity.

I prefer to look at is as “borrowing” …or even more appropriately “celebrating alongside with my pagan brothers and sisters”, rather than stealing.
Stealing is such a harsh word.

As long as I can still score a few Cadbury eggs between now and then…
Knock your bad selves out!
(I do all of my partying on the Spring Equinox anyways.)

I thought secular people want no religious adherence at all…
Most Christians celebrate easter by going to holy Thursday liturgies and stations of the cross on Friday, then attend a rather long mass on Sunday.

Um, you do kind of realise that half the world is going in to Autumn in April, right? A worldwide holiday celebrating spring is hardly appropriate…
I don’t see why we should even try. Just get rid of the holidays for Easter at all. We only have them as a left over of Christian domination of society. Just have other holidays more evenly spread through out the year. Much better idea.

You do realize that while those dates are correct this year, but will not be next year, or the year after, right? Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. However, the holiday practices that you call secular are actually pagan, and if anyone should reclaim them, it should be the Pagans…although, we already do that by celebrating Ostara on the equinox (not all Pagans, but any of us). If a Christian doesn’t mind participating in the pagan parts of the holiday, I say let them have their fun because without the pagan parts, the holidays are pretty boring. But, like someone else said, April 5 is early fall for those in the Southern hemisphere, and it would make more sense for the holiday to be on the equinox anyway.
